Q: What are the details of the parking ordinance in the Uplands?

A: The parking ordinance is in effect for Elmwood and  Institute from Main St. to Columbia Terrace.   Glenwood and Maplewood are restricted from Main St. to the middle alley.  Between the hours of 7am – 7 pm, Monday-Friday, all vehicles in these areas must have either a permanent resident’s permit, or a temporary visitor’s permit clearly visible. The exception to this rule is for service/repair vehicles.  These vehicles, however, must have their company name on the vehicle. A: The parking ordinance was created to deter Bradley students and visitors from using the Uplands as a parking lot.  Before the ordinance was in effect, the first two blocks of Elmwood, Institute, Glenwood, and Maplewood off of Main St. were congested with parked vehicles.The ordinance has alleviated this problem and allows residents to park in front of their homes. 

Q: I am a new resident. Where do I obtain these permits?

A: Both the permanent resident’s permit and visitor’s permits (stack of 50 per household per year) can be obtained at City Hall, 419 Fulton Street, in the City Clerk’s office.

Q:  What do the permits cost?

A: The permanent resident’s permit costs $10 and expires Dec 31st regardless of when you obtain the permit.  You may pay a $5 fee if the permit is obtained after July 1st.  A maximum of 2 permits per household are allowed.  There is not a charge for the visitor’s permits.
